  I initially planned to do this flight in Business as the price difference between Y and J was minimal ($300+ vs $400+). However, price for Tango dropped significantly and I bought the tickets at $191 (excluding seat selection and baggage fee) while the price of Business Class remained at about $460. One month before travel, I tried my luck with a bid of $120 USD per person for upgrade but as expected the bid failed. I wasn’t too hard up for the upgrade especially after my experience on AC 307 (this flight was operated on Airbus A319). It has the exact hard product as the A320 (which wasn’t great).

  This would be my first time in Air Transat (and also my first Economy Class for this trip). I had a few options flying into Calgary (for my trip to Banff and Lake Louise) and Air Transat was the cheapest (at about $165 per person including seat selection and one piece of luggage). The drawback is the departure time at 915am. For a domestic flight, this wasn’t too bad. I left my hotel from Downtown Vancouver at 730am and we reached the airport at about 755am. After checking in and going through security check, we reach the gate at about 830am (which was almost time for boarding). I could have used my Priority Pass card for access to Plaza Premium Lounge. After a full breakfast and the time in hand, I decided not to utilize it.

- AC307 Domestic Business Class and Maple Leaf Lounge – a case of downgraded bird

  My flight from Montreal to Vancouver was initially booked on AC 309 which was scheduled to fly on an Airbus A330. The A330 features the classic pod (which I have reviewed here) in a 1-1-1 configuration, similar to that of the 767. Few months before my flight, I was switched to AC 307. Although the flight timing is better (5pm instead of 7pm), I got downgraded to an A320. The A320 uses the domestic recliner seat instead of the full flat seat. I tried to change my flight to AC 311 which uses a Dreamliner but I had no luck even up to 1 week before travel.

  After a 24 hours flight on the majestic A380 in the venerable Suites class, it is back to reality for my next segment. Most of the short haul flights to Canada from New York originates from LGA. As I am connecting in JFK, I am down to 2 choices: Delta vs American. I opted for Delta mainly for the ease of connection (both Delta and Singapore Airlines operate out of Terminal 4).

- SQ26 Suites (SIN-FRA-JFK) Round 2, with my first ever in-flight medical call

  I was quite lucky to be able to score another pair of Suites on SQ26 (which I guess could be the last as well). Suites / First class to North America is getting harder to come by (despite the recent devaluation). Instead of doing another post on SQ26 / Singapore Airlines Suites, I will focus on the difference from my previous flight. Paid about $900 for both tickets (compared to almost $1200 back in 2015).

  With just one week to go, the mad scramble has started. Many long-haul flights to Europe and USA (both J and F) are either ‘Not Available’ or ‘Waitlist’. There are still seats available to Europe and even less seats to USA but one needs to be diligent in looking. Keep searching and you may get lucky (this include CPT/JNB too).

  The day we all dread is here, Krisflyer finally gets devalued! I was anticipating this back in 2015 while I was pooling my miles for my USA trip. That didn’t happen fortunately. 2016 came and went and no news was good news. Seems like 2017 is the year the chop will be happening (23 March 2017 to be exact).

  I recently concluded my short Seoul getaway. I bought the tickets in September when MAS had a promotion at $1068 (incl. tax) for Business Class (which was a great price). During the October promotion, the price went down further to $1018, otherwise the normal price was about $1900-2000. 2016 is the year MAS introduced the new J seats progressively and I managed to catch the new seats just in time as the changeover for Seoul happened on 31 October.
  
  Despite the excellent price, there were a few disadvantages of this flight. Firstly, the KUL transit. This can be mitigated either by taking an 830pm flight to KUL (leaving just slightly less than 2 hours of transit time) or one can opt for a morning flight and spend half a day in Kuala Lumpur instead. The flight time between Kuala Lumpur and Seoul is about 6.5 hours, leaving you barely any time for nap (especially with the meal service factored in). Lastly, the return flight from Seoul is 11am, hence one full day is wasted. If you are willing to compromise on these, MH J at this price is definitely a steal!
