After a disappointing stay I had in 2016, I blacklisted the Berjaya Group of hotels from my list. Not only was Berjaya not able to live up to what it promised, they completely screwed up my dinner booking which I made for my staff (as part of my company retreat). After a negative feedback, they reached out requesting that I give them another chance and so here I am.
Back in 2016, I made a booking of 5 Club Premier Suite (under the corporate booking) which allows me to check in anytime. I also made a booking of 20 people for their dinner buffet (as I needed Halal food for my staff). I figured the check in anytime would be good as my flight arrives in Kuala Lumpur at 10am. Unfortunately my flight was delayed and after going through the long immigration queue at KLIA2, we arrived at Berjaya Time Square at 1+ pm. Firstly there was no dedicated check in line for Club Suite and despite me finally able to get someone to attend to us (as we had 5 rooms under my booking), the room was not ready! The room was finally ready at almost 4pm. The worst screw up was for the dinner. Despite a booking for 20 people for their buffet dinner, my partner only found out that there was no buffet dinner on the day itself 10 minutes before our dinner appointment. This lead to a frantic search for a last minute venue that caters for Halal food. It was the one and only 1 star review I had given on Tripadvisor.
The hotel reached out after my feedback and I was given a complimentary stay which I utilized during my trip back to Malaysia to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Check in was pretty fast this time (unlike my previous time). Before my arrival, I did indicate I wish to do an early check in if possible and they did not disappoint. Even though the room was not ready at 1150am (when I arrived), they gave me a complimentary welcome drink voucher but by 1215pm our room was ready.
We were given a 2 bedroom suite again (this time without club access). We were given a room with tower view (with a splendid night view where both the KL tower and Petronas tower were nicely illuminated). Room is spacious, clean and well stocked with amenities. Coffee, tea and bottled water were provided with compliments. For the tower view room, the living area is incorporated into the main bedroom living a smaller dining area in the common area. For my previous room, I had 2 separate bedrooms with a common living and dining room. The main bedroom came equipped with a King Bed while the second room came with 2 single beds. Both rooms are ensuite. Hotel location remains one of their strong points as it is centrally located in Kuala Lumpur in the Bukit Bintang Shopping District.
Breakfast was given complimentary for our stay. We had our breakfast at about 9am and it wasn’t too crowded. We got our table without any need for waiting. Food spread is good – with a mixture of international and local Malaysia fare. For Malaysia food lovers, there were fried noodles, roti canai, nasi lemak and even briyani. There are 2 egg stations to cater for freshly cooked eggs.
Berjaya Time Square is pretty popular in town, so do expect crowd (it seems to be popular with both local and foreign tourists). Expect some wait with the lifts and do prepare at least 30 minutes for check out. The check in and checkout counter remains the weak point as they will definitely benefit from a larger counter and more staff to handle both check in and check out. Berjaya Time Square managed to redeem themselves for my second stay and I hope that they can keep it this way.
