    • Grand Millennium Hotel Hongqiao Shanghai

Posted at 11:12 am by TTOTY, on January 16, 2019

Over the years, my preference for my hotel bookings has slowly switched from 3rd party sites (Expedia – mainly for its 6 miles per dollar promo with Citibank previously) to that directly from the hotel.  This is due to progressively less bonus promo from credit cards (DBS Visa Altitude still has 6 miles per dollar promo) and more expensive hotels (Kaligo offers 10 to 12 miles per dollar but at a significantly higher price).

My preference further changed once I signed up for the IHG Ambassador programme which then make me choose IHG properties as my first option (direct booking with IHG).  There are indeed benefits one can get from booking directly with the hotel (especially when you have status with them) e.g. my stay in Holiday Inn Munich.  Another of my preference (but only if I will be staying for 4 nights) will be utilizing the Citi Prestige’s Hotel Night benefit (in which the 4th night will be free!).  One can occasionally double dip on this privilege (e.g. for my upcoming stay in Osaka where I managed to book on IHG for Holiday Inn Namba using member’s rate, getting the points and get the 4th night free!).

    • Happy New Year 2019!

Posted at 9:16 pm by TTOTY, on January 13, 2019

2018 had been a pretty busy year, and from the look of things – 2019 will be the same. What bad news we have that another round of devaluation from Krisflyer is just around the corner.

It was only in March 2017 that we had one round of devaluation (the biggest being the removal of the 15% discount for online redemption).  To soften the blow, Singapore Airlines removed the fuel surcharge.  This round, there is nothing to soften the blow as Business Class and First Class award tickets starting from Zone 1! (while Economy Class redemption remained).  Perhaps, the permanent feature of Spontaneous Escape will be this round’s cushion but only a select few will be able to take advantage of the Spontaneous Escape promotion).

    • MH609 (KUL-SIN) Business Class & MAS Golden Lounge in pictures

Posted at 1:46 pm by TTOTY, on January 3, 2019

As I had to make an urgent trip back to Malaysia, I booked a last minute flight on Jetstar.  Coming back was rather tricky as it was a weekend and very near to Christmas, hence the price was high!  Thankfully, I still had some leftover Avios in my British Airways Executive account which I used to make a redemption on MAS Business Class.

    • 2018 – looking back

Posted at 5:08 pm by TTOTY, on December 12, 2018

We have slightly less than 3 weeks of 2018 left.  2018 has been a challenging and tiring year, but it is also the year that I traveled the most (in terms of distance).  This is a summary of the places I visited this year:

    • SQ 830 (SIN-PVG) and SQ 833 (SIN-PVG) Economy Class

Posted at 4:39 pm by TTOTY, on December 12, 2018

      IMG_0331

I booked this trip for my family year end trip and the price was certainly attractive!  I paid $470 per person (all inclusive) which is way cheaper than what I paid for my ticket to Wuhan.  Both SQ 830 and SQ 833 is flown on the A380, specifically the new A38R.  The last 5 A380-800 that was delivered last year spots the new Suites (6 Suites in the forward section of upper deck) and the all new Business Class (with the double bed at the bulkhead).  The Premium Economy and Economy section however is the same as that of the 2015 and 2013 design.  Besides Shanghai, the other destinations that utilizes the A38R include Hong Kong, Sydney, London and Zurich (I am still hoping for SQ25/26 to get this but I doubt this will be the case).

      737-800

We had to do a last minute trip to Wuhan for a few days.  It was unfortunate that we had to give up the same ticket we redeemed in September using the 50% discount on spontaneous escape.  I had wrote a brief review on Silkair Economy Class for our travel in June (exact destination) and let’s see how does Silkair’s Business Class stand?

    • SQ21 Business Class (EWR-SIN) – post inaugural flight back to Singapore

Posted at 10:35 am by TTOTY, on October 20, 2018

      big apple

After 2 nights in The Big Apple, it is time to come back.  A very short trip indeed, but this is all the time I could afford to be away from work.

I had both a confirmed advantage Business ticket and a waitlisted Business saver ticket.  I was very much hoping for my waitlist to clear but by 12 October, I did not receive the clearance email.  I know my waitlist was unlikely to clear.  I had problem checking in online the day before flying as my saver waitlist was still active.  I tried cancelling my waitlist and I had trouble doing it using the SQ app.  I was prepared to go to the airport early to do it but by the night before flying back, my waitlist booking automatically disappeared and I could finally check in!  On checking in, I noticed that the cabin is full!

Wow, after so many months of waiting the trip is over in just 4 days.  It may be short on days, but certainly not short in fun and excitement! I shall start my review on how this trip came to fruition.

With October 11 nearing, Singapore Airlines will soon regain the title of the longest route in the world (at about 9,500 miles) with the relaunching of SQ22 and SQ21.

    • Air China First Class Lounge Shanghai

Singapore Airlines does not have a Krisflyer lounge in Shanghai which is a tad surprising considering that SQ flies 4 daily flights to PVG, so First Class or Suite passengers are invited to use the No.71 Air China First Class Lounge located near gate D71, but on the second floor where there are other cafes and restaurants located.
