So, 2020 has been a bummer for all of us especially travel nerds like me. For someone who is constantly scouring Singapore Airlines website for availability, I end up cancelling more trips this year than making them. So, what have I achieved in 2020? Let’s see:
- Flown a total of 368 miles this year
- Spent a total of 1 night outside of Singapore
- Came into contact with the 1st unlinked Covid-19 case in Singapore (and hence pushing Singapore from yellow alert to orange alert)
- Spending 11 nights in quarantine in a Government Quarantine Facility (and being able to review it)
- Countless interviews with Zaobao
- Having the privilege to have SQ crews working with me
- New business partners – CL who had the courage to fly on UA1 / UA2 last year in Economy and RC
- Inside SIA
- Amassing more than 1.5 million miles ready to burn them!

At almost 100 years old, this old hotel built by the Vanderbilt family near the Grand Central Terminal still looks elegant and classy well into the 21st century.
How does it fair in the modern New York?

For my recent trip, London was my first stop and what better way for me to use the Intercontinental Ambassador Weekend Night certificate than to use it on this top end Intercontinental property. One of the perks of the Ambassador program is the Weekend Night where you get a free night stay when you make a booking of 2 nights over the weekend period (Friday to Sunday Night for most regions). Depending on the property, this constitutes a big saving (in my case, 630 GBP). Besides the free stay, you will get a guaranteed upgrade to the next level room. I had to book the Studio Suite room as that is the lowest level room that comes with complimentary club lounge access. For all other rooms, lounge access will cost you 96 pound per night per 2 persons (which is fairly exorbitant!). With this benefit, we were upgraded to the 1 bedroom suite.
The hotel is certainly well located in the up market Park Lane/Mayfair area (the most expensive plot on the Monopoly J ). It is within walking distance to many spots such as Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park and Kensington Park, Piccadilly, Knightsbridge etc. It can also connect to other parts of London easily as the Hyde Park Underground station is just at the doorstep.

Having recently joined the Intercontinental Ambassador program, I decided to do my short stay in one of the Intercontinental Hotels in Hanoi. There are 2 Intercontinental in Hanoi, the older one is situated in West Lake while the newer one is in Landmark 72, a fairly new office cum hotel tower in Hanoi. Intercontinental Landmark 72 was just recently launched in September 2017 and they have yet to have their own website (the hotel website is currently hosted on IHG website). After 2 nights stay, I have only praises for this hotel while the only downside about this hotel is the location (which is quite a distance from the Old Quarters).
