Check in
Check-in was fast as there is a dedicated premier check-in counter for Business and First-class passengers as well as Star Alliance Gold. There was no queue, and the check-in process was straightforward. Security clearance on the other hand set me back 15 minutes as my updated passport number was not captured on the immigration system and I could not be cleared until the Air China official gave the immigration the green light. The software system really needs a massive amount of revamping to make the online experience more pleasant and seamless.

Lounge
Air China has a lounge for premium passengers (including for Star Alliance Gold). The lounge looks like something that has not moved with time and looks like it is still in the 90s. This old school look, however, does exudate some charm.
The lounge is not noticeably big, but it was fairly empty in the morning. It has a small food and beverage selection with a cook to order noodle station.
There are toilets in the lounge itself.

Hardware

My flight was operated by an Airbus A321-200 (a 14-year-old B-6665) which looked dated (compared to the C919 I flew in earlier). It has 12 seats in Business Class in a 2-2 configuration. Seats were wider with excellent padding, making it comfortable to seat in. It lacks privacy wings on its newer counterpart and lacks an integrated leg and footrest (there is a footrest on the rear of the front seat though). There was no additional storage space beyond that of the rear pocket. No in-seat charging ports were available.
There was no IFE available on this flight.
The toilet was again spartan with no amenity beyond moisturizer and facial toner.

Software
Service was once again efficient but clinical. Similar to what I had in CA 8212, the pre-departure towel and drink service and meal order were there.
The food was average and portion meagre but suffice for a short 1.5-hour flight.

Amenities
Each seat came with a pillow, a blanket, and slippers. No amenity kits were available.
Impression
The older seats felt more comfortable from the better seat padding and generous width at the expense of charging capability. This should not be an issue for a short flight but anything more than 3 hours would be a little more challenging.
